Extra Credits for Students Participating in Swachh Bharat Abhiyan
- UGC directed universities and colleges to award two credits to the students under CBSE scheme for their participation in Swachh Bharat Abhiyan activities.
- Summer internships will be rolled out to promote Swachh Mission.
In an official circular issued to all the universities by the University Grants Commission (UGC), the higher education regulator directed all the universities to award academic credits to students for their valuable participation in Indian government’s most popular initiative ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’. Students pursuing degree courses under CBCS (Choice Based Credit System) will get two credits for undertaking 100 hours/ 15 days summer internships under Swachh Bharat Abhiyan activities.

About Summer Internships under Swachh Bharat Abhiyan: -
- During the summer internship programme, students will have to pave the way for overall cleanliness in slums or villages.
- Apart from taking steps on overall cleanliness, students will have to set up systems for sustainable sanitation and cleanliness efforts under the campaign.
- All the students who participate in Swachh Bharat Abhiyan activities will have a great learning experience.
The UGC has also directed universities and affiliated colleges to consider the implementation of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan as an elective course from the forthcoming summer session. It is the responsibility of the university to motivate and attract the students to take up the course. A wide publicity must be given to the course so that more students will be enthusiastic to take part in Swachh Bharat Abhiyan activities.

As per the UGC guidelines for Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, the universities and colleges can collaborate and take steps for making the Swachh Mission possible and successful.
