FDDI Declared as Institute of National Importance, More Institutes to Come Up
Commerce Minister of Uttar Pradesh also revealed that these institutes are imparting modern skills with the help of latest technology and providing the skilled workforce to the industry.
Institute of National Importance status has been awarded to Footwear Design and Development Institute or FDDI. The move is a sign of relief to many aspirants who are pursuing studying at the institute. Now, FDDI will be treated equally at par with IITs and IIMs.
According to sources, Lok Sabha has passed the bill that grants national importance status to Footwear Design and Development Institute on April 6, 2017. Nirmala Sitharaman, Commerce Minister of Uttar Pradesh revealed that a total number of five FDDIs would come up in various locations across India. Currently, there are seven FDDIs in India. These institutes are playing a significant role in producing skilled personnel for the footwear industry.

UP Commerce Minister further indicated that the course offered by FDDI is self-financed and capital expenditure is not recovered from students. Many students show interest in joining FDDIs as there are more job opportunities in the field. So far, students who passed out from FDDI have been placed in very good jobs. She pointed that the high admission fee is not a matter of concern among the students as the recruitment rate is high.

Commerce Minister of Uttar Pradesh also revealed that these institutes are imparting modern skills with the help of latest technology and further providing a skilled workforce to the industry. She expressed that there is a need to provide equal opportunities to all the categories particularly SC/ S/ OBC and women candidates. She assured that the rules of reservation will be followed during the admission process.
