<p>The classes of Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Bodhgaya is going to start from 31 August but of the 60 seats only 30 have been filled up which left the authorities of the institution worried about.
Senior official of the Institutes reveals that they are very much concerned about the left seats and the institute will look back their entire admission process.
The institute was set up after the central government had announced the setting up of the IIM in Bihar during the Narendra Modi Government's first budget presented last July.
After much deliberation of one year, finally the centre had decided to set up the institution - at Bodhgaya, 120km south of Patna. Earlier the centre had wanted to set up the institute at Patna and its vicinity but state government could not provide the required land.
For now, the IIM would run from the distance education directorate building inside Magadh University (MU) premises in Bodhgaya. Classes would start from August 31. IIM Calcutta is its mentor for the admission process.
Expert from the education field feel that, The main reason behind the seats remaining vacant at IIM-Bodhgaya is that it is a new institute and yet to become a popular choice of option for the students.
“Besides, the CAT examination, on the basis of which IIM-Bodhgaya admitted students, took place in October last year. At that time there was no clarity on IIM-Bodhgaya. One was not even sure whether the institution would start functioning from this year. Hence, CAT applicants might not have opted for this institute in the first place, said an official of the institute.
A section of the parents also blame the authority for abrupt close of the admission process while several seats were still vacant.
The minimum percentile for admission into IIM-Bodhgaya was 96 for the general candidates, whereas in case of Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe students the said percentiles were 63 and 50 respectively.
Classes at IIM will take place on the first floor of the directorate of distance education (DDE) building at Magadh University's (MU's) Bodhgaya headquarters campus.
