Few Takers for Sanskrit Course in Uttar Pradesh
With the UP Government taking a heavy stance in popularising Sanskrit by delivering their press releases in the language, a similar stance is not visible from the student viewpoint. Officials state that students refrain from choosing the course as it does not provide a career in their future.
In recent times, CM Yogi Adityanath’s Government in the state of Uttar Pradesh has been advocating the popularising of the “language of the God’s”, i.e. Sanskrit. However, the number of students who wish to pursue the language across the state has been diminishing, year after year.
With the party releasing various press statements in Sanskrit, in order to promote the people to pursue studying the language, data shows that the promotion of the language has been a failure. Sources state that more than 40% of the seats for Sanskrit, Hindi as well as other languages have been left vacant.
A Faculty member from the Lucknow University has stated that the students have not been choosing Sanskrit and other languages due to one major reason, which is the courses do not guarantee a career. The faculty particularly stated that the number of students opting for Sanskrit has been reducing over the years. He further added that with the current rate of diminishing number of students, the University will have to let go of courses such as these in the coming future.
