Flipkart Deferred IIM-A Grads' Job, Paytm ShopClues Come as Taker

When Flipkart decided to defer the jobs of 18 IIM-A students Paytm, the country’s largest mobile wallet company said it will evaluate the resumes of these students and thereafter recruit.

Flipkart deferred their joining by six months but later but offered a compensation for the intervening period. A joining bonus of Rs. 1.5 lakh will be offered when the new recruits join in December. The company told them that their joining dates had been pushed back from June to December this year which has shocked these bright students.

While the giving the information as an official of Paytm said: “We have received emails from the placement cell of IIM-A and now we will look at hiring these graduates, but only after interviews.”

The major start-up company had tried to reassure the affected students. "Flipkart is committed and confident to onboard our campus hires in December. Please take this as an assurance.- said the company in a message to IIMA.

“20 students had been affected by delays in start-up jobs - 11 at Flipkart and nine at two other e-commerce players. Students were expecting to join in a couple of weeks but they were told of delay at the last minute. They were euphoric and excited and made all the travel plans, accommodation plans. They were totally disappointed when the jobs were not offered. But they are still hopeful that the job offer would finally be honored," said an official of IIM-A

"Flipkart came in early in the recruitment cycle and picked up some ver talent student .But despite the delay, we will not stop startups from coming to campus for recruitment. That choice is up to students. We will not blacklist any Company. Six months may not be a long time But for students stepping into what might be their first job, being told their first day of work has been delayed is disappointing," said another official of Flipkart.
