Seeing the current condition of medical facilities in the country, three IIT graduates have come up with a solution to one of the most common medical issue: lack of medical facilities and no access to doctors. They have developed kiosks which can help people who have limited access to doctors by providing them with diagnostic services electronically.

Two of the graduates from Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay (IIT-B)- Dhilly Babu and Shreyans Gandhi along with their friend from Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur- Arpit Mishra came up with the idea of providing people with medical facilities just like the way an ATM provides people with cash. They all agreed on the idea of ‘health ATM’ which would be similar to a bank ATM. The plus point of this invention is that it can be seen useful in areas with little or no access to medical facilities.

Till now, they have been able to set up 18 such kiosks in various parts of India. Out of the 18, two are in Mumbai and one in Thane. They together have established their company Yolo Health.

According to Babu, one of the partner entrepreneurs, the health ATMs will be working similar to the regular ATMs and will be providing the people with primary-level services so that they do not have to go to any clinic. Babu pointed out that in most parts of the country, there is a shortage of doctors. In those areas, people find it difficult to access any clinic. The health ATM will prove to be useful in such cases as it will not only provide the people with a basic diagnosis but also connect villagers to the nearby doctors.

The ATM will be able to provide the people with a solution to various medical issues ranging from blood pressure, body mass index (BMI) and fat and muscle percentage, to various blood and urine tests, as well as cardiac and respiratory check-ups. With the help of inbuilt tools and sensors to perform the primary diagnosis, kiosks are also able to generate instant reports. In case a patient needs any sort of further help, they will be connected to a doctor via videoconferencing.

The founders confessed that their invention has proven to be a success in rural areas as 40-50 patients visit the kiosks every day.

Apart from the rural areas, some of the kiosks have also been installed in a few offices in Mumbai and Bangalore. By this, they will also be moving forward to help people with lifestyle diseases like diabetes, blood pressure, and heart ailments.
