One of the senior officials indicated that the HRD Ministry is in plans to grant more autonomy to top performing educational institutes. However, deemed varsity status will give complete autonomy to an institute.

He further added that the proposal was raised in a Governing Body meeting of the Hindu College. However, these colleges need to secure 'A' grade from NAAC for three consecutive years to get deemed university status. If everything happens as per the proposal, these colleges need not abide by rules and regulations laid by Delhi University, and they need not seek sanctions from DU for any decision.

On the other hand, the proposal might not go well with the students union. They might oppose the proposal as education becomes expensive in these colleges if granted deemed varsity status. A deemed university will have autonomy to choose their fees structure.
