A free awareness program and health camp was organized under the aegis of the ASA and supported by Care Luit and Tipkai by inviting well-known doctors based in Delhi. Under the program, they provided students health tips to keep themselves protected from such diseases.
Measures suggested for the prevention of the diseases:
- Proper food in lunch & dinner at the proper time
- Take sufficient liquid like juice and filtered water
- Take sufficient rest
- Consult doctors immediately if any symptoms of the diseases are seen
- Don't panic
Pritam Deka, General Secretary, ASA said that more than 80 students and elderly people turned up for the free health check up.
Since these students are away from home and lots of them have already suffered from these diseases, now ASA has taken the initiative to organize the health camp by inviting doctors. They had invited three well know doctors from Delhi and one from Assam.
Dr. Chandan Deka, a surgeon, said that they came across many students suffering from chikungunya. He had told the students to take extra amount of liquid and proper rest. The doctor also told them not to take medicine without consulting a physician.

A DU student said, “students feel very secure when any organization takes such steps. We are here thousands kilometer away from home and our parents. We are living alone and it becomes quite difficult for us to take care of ourselves. If someone is there to look after us we feel secure."
