Six Months on, FTII Waits for Appointment of New Chairman
- The tenure of former Chairman of FTII ended in March 2017, and FTII has been functioning headless for the past six months.
- Officials of FTII confirmed that the issue relating to the appointment is underway.
It has been six months since the tenure of former Chairman of Film and Television Institute of India, Mr. Gajendra Chauhan ended, and the body concerned with the appointment of new Chairman failed to make a move. The FTII Society is responsible for electing the Academic Council and Governing Council, which then takes the decision on key issues pertaining to the academic and administrative matters concerning the institute.
Mr. Gajendra Chauhan was appointed as the Chairman of the FTII in June 2015 for a period of three years. However, he assumed the charge only in January 2015 due to massive protests against him by the students. Therefore, he got the tenure of only 15 months as the Chairman of FTII.

However, the Ministry of I & B revealed that the communication between the two bodies regarding the issue was in ‘possession of FTII’, and the information regarding the appointment of new Chairman can be obtained from FTII. On the other hand, the authorities refused to part with the communication, claiming that its disclosure might prejudice the appointment itself.
