The admission in First Year Junior Colleges (FYJC) in Maharashtra will begin from the first week of June 2019. The first round namely, ‘Zero’ round will focus towards filling the minority, in house and management quotas. General students looking forward to getting admitted in Maharashtra Junior Colleges for 2019 must wait for more 3 rounds to be conducted if only seats are vacant.

The economically weaker sections and Marathas will be the first to get admitted in non-minority junior colleges. However, the situation will not be any better than the previous year in minority junior colleges in Maharashtra as per the new government resolution (GR) issued by the Maharashtra Education Ministry. Similarly, like last year, the minority junior colleges will only be able to take admissions after the 3 rounds of the centralized admission procedure (CAP) is done. Some of the major minority colleges in the city, such as St Xavier’s, KC, Jai Hind and Mithibai, reserve 50% of their seats for linguistic and religious minorities.

The Zero round of admission will be held in non-minority colleges to fill the minority, in-house and management quotas. The next three rounds will be held after the zero round is completed and has vacant seats. The students who did not get a chance for admission in the zero round will get a special chance after all the rounds are over.

Vinod Tawde, the education minister of Maharashtra has said that the enforcement of the new reservation policy will keep 7% seats vacant for open/general category students after the admissions of Economically & Socially Backward and in-house students.

The newly revised reservation policy holds a place for 16% Maratha reservation and 10% economically backward general category quota.

For the first time, there will be an option from the students to change colleges in the web portal to counter the problem of reappearing if the student gets diploma and ITI admissions.
