Gandhi, Vivekanand, CK Prahlad Books Replace Foreign Authors at Rajasthan University

Rajasthan University’s post-graduation commerce course has been subjected to the familiar process of 'Indianisation'. The course curriculum that was following the books written by Robert Owen, James Burnham and other foreign authors have been replaced with books by Swami Vivekanand, Mahatma Gandhi, SK Chakraborty and CK Prahlad. Apart from these Indian epics, yoga has also been included in the curriculum.

Not very long ago, the syllabus of government schools was revised to have a more Indian-oriented education.

Management Thinkers is one of the subjects that has been introduced which will comprise the ideology of Indian thinkers so that Indian ethos and values in management could be promoted.

Explaining the change, the curriculum revision committee said that a chapter on Swami Vivekanand has been included to educate the students that the yogi was the conceptualizer of globalization, corporate social responsibility and trusteeship.

Naveen Mathur, Convener, Curriculum Revision Committee said that it was Vivekananda who initially introduced concepts like globalization which were further studied by foreign authors. He further added that the committee has tried to bring out the real man behind the concept.

The books that the committee has launched for the course consists of extracts of Vivekanand's speeches and research work related to him. His focus on value-based living is also an essential aspect that students can learn a lot from, stated the commerce department of the university.

Mahatma Gandhi’s views on aspects such as corporate social responsibility, role and rights of labours and trusteeship have also been included in the course in a chapter on Gandhi. It elaborates the role of Gandhian principles in influencing the CSR of Tata Group.

Management Thinkers also comprises of books written by CK Prahlad, a renowned International Management guru. Those will enlighten the students regarding the importance of consumer and how he is valued in the whole system.

Mary Parker Follett known for her expertise in organizational theory and organizational behaviour and Oliver Sheldon popular for his work in public and business administration rules are the authors who have been scrapped.
