GATE 2017 to Allow Changes in Category After Form Submission: Find Out How!
GATE 2017 to be conducted by IIT Roorkee will allow students to make changes in gender, category & examination city centre in their already submitted GATE application form between November 15 and November 22, 2016.
The organising institute for GATE 2017,IIT Roorkee, has notified that the option for change in gender, category, examination city in the submitted application form will now be available between November 15 and November 22, 2016.
The changes in GATE 2017 will be applicable for PG programs in engineering - M.E., M.Tech, Direct Ph.D in Indian institutes of higher education with financial assistance provided by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) and other government agencies. GATE score is also valid for recruitment to government organisations such as Cabinet Secretariat, and National/ State Public Sector Undertakings in India.

The extra amount to be paid for each change can be made online only at the following cost:
| From SC/ST to General/ OBC | INR 750 |
| From Female to Male/Others | INR 750 |
| From PwD to Non-PwD | INR 750 |
| City Change | INR 400 |
However, change in specialisation in the GATE paper is not permitted. Non-PwD candidates with dyslexia/ writer’s cramp requiring one-hour extra GATE 2017 examination time have to send their request by email to gateiitr.2017@gmail.com. The mail must have following details like:
- Name of candidate
- Enrollment ID
- The latest certificate from a Government Hospital Doctor
- The certificate must be on a letterhead of a doctor with signature, date, and seal
The certificate must mention the disorder of the candidate with the full name. The last date of sending the mail is before December 5, 2017 (6.00 PM)

Candidates intending to change category from General and OBC to SC and ST have to send a mail to gateiitr.2017@gmail.com between November 4, 2016 and November 20, 2016, with the following details:
- Enrollment ID
- Name of the Candidate
- Category change with proper documents in attachment
- There shall be no refund of fees for this change
