Gates Scholarship of Cambridge University: 3 Indians Among the 90 Selected

A total of three Indians have been selected to be among the 90 Gates Cambridge scholars who will take up postgraduate studies at the prestigious Cambridge University. Almost 6,000 applications were received for the same, the academic session for which is scheduled to begin this year in 2017.

The University announced the list of the selected students on Monday, 10th April 2017.

Apart from the above-mentioned, Ms. Leena Dahal (Nepal) will further pursue an M.Phil in Modern South Asian Studies at the university. She will explore the identity and intersectionality with respect to South Asia.

More Facts about the Cambridge Scholarship 2017:

• Among the 90 scholars who have been selected, 40 are men while 50 are women who belong to varied backgrounds.
• 49 students will pursue Ph.Ds and 41 students will take up Master's degree.
• All the scholars represent a total of 34 nationalities.
• 35 scholars have been selected from the United States of America alone.
• Selection of applicants is based on their academic background. Mostly those candidates are chosen who are likely to turn into eminent leaders across all fields.

While speaking about the Gates Cambridge Scholars, Bill Gates who is the Co-chair of the Bill Melinda Gates Foundation said these scholars, irrespective from which region or country they come from, they have few important things in common. These include:

Leszek Borysiewicz, Vice-chancellor of Cambridge & the Chair of Gates Cambridge Board of Trustees said that the primary aim of Cambridge is to tackle various global challenges and further improve the lives of others.
