GITAM to Introduce Four Year B Optometry Course

GITAM Deemed University School of Science (Sos) Hyderabad campus is planning to introduce a Bachelor of Optometry from the academic year 2021-22 in partnership with LV Prasad Eye Institute (LVPEI). Sos Principal Prof. GA Rama Rao informed that the B.Optom is a four-year course where the students will get an opportunity to spend two years at the School of Science and another two years at LVPEI.
GITAM Deemed University B.Optom Eligibility
The eligibility for the GITAM Deemed University B.Optom course is as follows:
- Must have passed intermediate or class 12 in Science stream from a recognised board.
- Candidate must have scored a minimum of 55% marks in the last qualifying exam.
- Must have studied Physics, Chemistry, and Biology.
The curriculum of the four-year Bachelor of Optometry at GITAM will include the application of technologies like artificial intelligence and deep learning to improve the patient experience.
Optometry is the field of science that deals with the examination, diagnosis, and treatment of visual disorders and eye diseases. After pursuing the B.Optom course candidates will be eligible to work as Opticians, Ophthalmic Assistants, and Optometrist. To further enhance their career candidates can also pursue masters in the same.
M.Optometry is one of the popular master's courses that candidates pursue after completing B.Optom.It is a postgraduate programme that deals with the eye and the treatment processes for the different visual diseases and illnesses suffered by human beings. The duration of the course is two years.
