Gujarat National Law University, Gandhinagar was declared the winner of the First Professor N R Madhava Menon SAARC Mooting Competition held at Lloyd Law College, Greater Noida with the technical support of Menon Institute of Legal Advocacy on 4thand 5th March. The result was declared after being judged by the panel of 5 bench Delhi High Court senior most judges (Hon’ble Mr. Justice Jayank Nath, Hon’ble Mr. Justice Najmi Wazir, Hon’ble Mr. Justice Vibhu Bakhru, Judge, Hon’ble Mr. Justice I S Mehta, Hon’ble Ms. Justice Sangita Dhingra Sehgal).
The runner up team was Kerala Law Academy, Trivandrum and the best presenter of First Professor N R Madhava Menon Students Conference became Adity Karky from Kathmandu School of Law, while the runner up became Panduka W Bandara, University of Colombo. While distributing the prizes and addressing the valedictory function, Hon’ble Justice Dipak Misra, Judge Supreme Court stated, “A lawyer should have ‘uncommon’ common sense”, further he added that “law students need to develop innovative skills to have good research and for that they have to avoid unhealthy contentment in life”.
The competition was named after Prof (Dr) N R Madhava Menon, the architect of modern legal education. He congratulated the students and expressed his delightment in witnessing the young minds coming up with original ideas to improve legal education. Prof R Venkata Rao, the Vice Chancellor of National Law India University, Bangalore while addressing the gathering appreciated the competition for its uniqueness that will develop the harmony among South Asian legal fraternity.
The other winners of the competition are: Best Memorial- Christ University, Bangalore Second best memorial – Kathmandu School of law Best Orator (male) – Prashanth Nadaraj, Christ University, Bangalore Best Orator (female) – Anisha Gupta, Christ University, Bangalore In the event, Prof. (Dr) S Sivakumar, the SAARC Administrator, Mr Manohar Thairani, President Lloyd Law College also rendered speech in the valedictory session. Post the event, there was SAARC cultural feast and SAARC dinner that Lloyd organized to enthuse the teams from SAARC Countries i.e. Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Afghanistan and Maldives.
