Goa University M.Tech Student Awarded Intel Fellowship

Arghya Pal, an M.Tech graduate from the 2015 batch of Goa University has been awarded the prestigious Intel Ph.D fellowship.This news has brought much-needed relief to the university's masters of technology (MTech) programme that has been in controversy from the last few months.

Pal is a graduate from the Department of Computer Science and Technology of the university. The Intel Ph.D. fellowship that he has been awarded is a best-in-industry fellowship. Under the fellowship, the recipient gets a research travel grant as well as contingency grant for four years.

Right now he is working on computer vision and deep learning. Pal won the prestigious competitive Intel Ph.D. fellowship for his proposal on 'Predicting Data Itself: Reliable Video Prediction using Deep Learning Architectures'.

The masters of technology (MTech) programme course was introduced by the Goa University in 2013. But the University suspended admissions to the MTech course to the first year for the academic year 2016-17. Students from the two batches that have completed the course had faced legal issues. The problem arose when students were appointed to faculty positions in technical education institutes in the state. The university is trying to resolve the technicalities associated with the problem and has suspended admissions for the same.

The Intel Ph.D Fellowship is awarded to exceptional Ph.D. candidates to pursue cutting-edge innovation in hi-technology fields. It is offered by Intel Corporation from the past two decades now. Each awardee gets a fellowship of up to INR 6,00,000 per annum with travel grant and contingency grant for a period of 4 years.
