Government Pre-University Colleges in Karnataka Record Poor Intake
There are 90 PU government colleges in this districts, among them 15 colleges recorded less than ten admissions.
This year, the Government Pre-University (PU) colleges in Karnataka recorded poor intake. No student has joined in the college located in Kabbatti village located in Channarayapatna. The number of second-year students studying in this college is only six. Four lecturers are working in this college handling these six students. Similarly, there are 15 second-year students in a college located at Chakenahalli village, Holenarasipur taluk. There are three lecturers in this college. No students have joined for the first-year. There are 90 PU government colleges in this districts, among them 15 colleges recorded less than ten admissions.

The reason for the decline in admissions is, most of the PU colleges do not offer courses in Science and Commerce. Moreover, these colleges do not conduct special classes for the entrance examinations like CET or NEET. So, most of the parents are opting for private colleges. In the private colleges, experts are hired for coaching classes.

The demand for Commerce course has increased drastically. The number of takers for the Arts courses declined. Students who want to opt Science streams joining in private colleges. If this trend continues for a couple of years, the government will have no other option except to shut down the Government PU colleges.
