Addressing the students at the convocation of Jagadguru Rambhadracharya Handicapped University, Union HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar said that the government is thinking to increase the number of scholarships for the differently abled students. Currently, the government is providing 2,500 scholarships to differently abled students.

He mentioned that he had received an invitation from various universities to attend the convocation, but he decided to attend the function at the Handicapped University. He participated in the convocation of the university for the first time after assuming charge. He awarded D Litt Certificates to the students.

He mentioned that there are 3% of physically challenged people across the country and the Narendra Modi government is trying to reach all the sections of society, especially the marginal and the poor. He assured that the HRD Ministry would look into further ways for strengthening the University. For this purpose, two senior officials from the ministry would visit the University.

He praised the efforts of Rambhadracharya, Vice-Chancellor of the University, for his efforts in strengthening the foundations of the University despite being blind. Today, the University is providing high-quality education to more than 1,000 physically challenged students.

Mr. Rambhadracharya said that the University has been operating for many years, and it is time to transform it to a Central varsity.

Javadekar assured that a one-time grant of Rs. 2 lakh will be provided to the University for the construction of the Equal Opportunity Cell. He also lauded the effort of Indira Gandhi National Open University that is soon going to introduce the Indian Sign Language Research and Training Centre.
