Government to Offer Scholarships to Traditional Artists
The Government has taken up the initiative to promote Indian artists in different cultural and traditional domains by providing scholarships to young aspiring artists.
The Government has taken up the initiative to promote Indian artists in different cultural and traditional domains by providing scholarships to young aspiring artists. The traditional fields for which the scholarships will be provided are Indian Classical Dance and Music, Traditional Theatre, Visual Art, Mime, Indigenous Art, Folk, Light Classical Music and other forms of traditional arts.

The Government will invite applications every year and shortlist meritorious students based on either their performance or interview that will be conducted by the Expert Committee set up by the Ministry for awarding scholarships.
The government provides about 400 scholarships every year to a group of young artists that belong to the age group of 18-25 years. A sum of Rs. 5,000 is offered to the students per month for a period of two years. The government has not slotted the scholarship in art-wise or state-wise quota.

Dr. Mahesh Sharma, Minister of State (I/C) for Culture and Tourism had announced this information in his written reply to the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday, August 3.
