Governor Asks MU to Speed-Up Assessment; Provisional Certificates Issued to Students

Maharashtra Governor and Chancellor of Mumbai University (MU) Vidyasagar Rao has directed the Vice Chancellor Dr Sanjay Deshmukh to speed up the assessment of answer papers so that all the results can be announced by the end of July.

The deadline for declaring the result is July 31, 2017. The Governor said that the delay in declaration of results will affect the career of the students who seek admission in PG courses after the completion of their graduate courses.

Keeping the wellbeing of students in mind, it is essential that the results are declared on time, a Raj Bhavan spokesperson added.

The Governor has also asked the Vice Chancellor of the MU to encourage faculty members to accelerate the evaluation and assessment process. He also appreciated the effort of the teachers who have dedicated their time and effort to help declare the result on time.

The progress of the answer sheet evaluation has also been reviewed by Rao. Two review meetings have been conducted so far by the Governor. Status Report has also been presented regarding the On-Screen Marking System by Vice Chancellor Deshmukh.

The VC also informed the Governor instructions have been issued to the teachers regarding assessment and speeding up the results. These instructions will be followed for the remaining 4 days left before the deadline.

The delay in result will hamper the chances of students applying for post-graduate programmes as the deadline for filling the applications are close. Various students of the MU are in a fix at they have applied for universities abroad but have not received their results and mark sheets yet.

After various requests from these students, the university has issued them provisional certificates stating that the candidates will secure more than 60% marks in the entire programme on the basis of the assessment of previous 5 semesters.

These provisional mark sheets cannot be sent to the universities abroad as they are vague and do not clearly mention the marks of the students.

Students applying for PG courses at Indian universities are also facing the same problem as they do not have proof that they have passed the final exams of their graduate degree courses.

Sitaram Kunte, Additional Chief Secretary, asked the Vice Chancellor to make sure that the students applying for higher education programmes such as B.Ed., MBA and Law do not miss admission opportunities due to delay in the announcement of results.
