Govt: North East Students will not be Exempted from Clearing CTH in DU

The North East Students' Society had sent a representation to the Delhi University according to which they asked to be exempted from clearing the Compulsory Test in Hindi (CTH).

The North East Students' Society had sent a representation to the Delhi University according to which they asked to be exempted from clearing the Compulsory Test in Hindi (CTH). However, the Lok Sabha was informed on Monday, December 5, 2016, that no such concession has been granted to the students yet.

The house wrote to the Mahendra Nath Pandey, HRD Minister of State, in order to get more information in this regard. The minister responded to the query and said that a representation was received in this regard by the Delhi University from the North East Students' Society, Delhi University as well as the National Students' Union of India but the university has not granted exemption from clearing the CTH yet.

The minister further added that the Delhi University has made it clear that according to the Ordinance V(2-A) of the Delhi University, all the students pursuing courses for the degrees that are mentioned in this ordinance have to pursue a course study and are required to pass an examination in Hindi.

Pandey also said that the Department of Hindi, University of Delhi, has sent a request to the respective principals of the colleges affiliated to DU, asking them to start teaching the course/syllabi that has been approved by Academic Council for the CTH. This syllabus will be taught under Choice Based Credit System for those Indian under graduate-level students who have not studied Hindi subject in elementary school, informed Pandey.
