Govt. of Jammu & Kashmir Seeks Rs. 400 Crore from Centre for Education Sector

Education Minister of the state, Altaf Bukhari revealed that the state government has sought a sum of Rs. 300 crore for 146 model schools that were designated in the state along with Rs. 100 crore under the Prime Minister’s Development Programme.

The government of Jammu & Kashmir is planning to boost the education sector and is looking for additional funds. Therefore, the government sought an additional grant of Rs. 400 crore from the Centre for the development of education sector.

Education Minister of the state, Altaf Bukhari revealed that the state government has sought a sum of Rs. 300 crore for 146 model schools that were designated to the state along with Rs. 100 crore under the Prime Minister’s Development Programme.

He further mentioned that he had met the Union Minister of Human Resource and Development Prakash Javadekar and sought the grant. Javadekar responded positively and assured that the grant as the development of education is the top priority in the state. According to sources, the additional grant will help in developing higher education and schooling. The funds will help in incorporating more courses under the Prime Minister’s Special Scholarship Scheme.

Mr. Altaf Bhukari further explained that Rs. 100 crore would be spent on improving the infrastructure of out-campus colleges that include Islamic University of Science and Technology, Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University, Kashmir University and Jammu University.

The Education Minister of the state further indicated that there is a need to expedite the permanent campuses for Indian Institute of Mass Communication, Indian Institute of Management and National Institute of Technology. He also expressed his concern towards the fact that IIM Jammu, IIT Jammu and NIT Srinagar are functioning without a director. He further explained all his concerns relating to education in the state and received a positive support from the Union HRD Minister.
