Govt. Panel Gets Third Extension for Drafting New Education Policy
- The main aim of the education policy is to provide a comprehensive framework for the growth and development of education in the country.

The panel formed by the government has been granted an extension of two months till August 31, 2018, to draft the New Education Policy. Chief K Kasturirangan, Former ISRO Chief told the authorities that the panel was set up by HRD Ministry in June 2017. The panel was to submit the report by December 2017 and June 30, 2018, but now they have been granted an extension for the third time. The main aim of the education policy is to provide a comprehensive framework for the growth and development of education in the country.

According to the reports, the basic work is complete but the panel is now going to consult and seek advice from experts and stakeholders regarding the same due to which the extension is required. However, most of the suggestion in the New Education Policy may not be effective this year as most of the schools and colleges were functional from April and July. Therefore, most of the policies will be implemented from the next academic year.

The National Education Policy came into existence in the year 1986 and then was revised in 1992. The panel constitutes of eight members from different sectors of education. The work on the education policy was initiated by Smriti Irani who had to ask the former cabinet secretary to prepare the draft regarding the same. However, after some time few amendments were made and a new committee was formed by HRD Minister Prakash Javedakar.
