18 teachers and 36 students from 18 Government Telangana schools will begin teaching coding to the students of Amarchinta and Atmakur Mandal schools in the Wanaparthy district from 17th January onwards. The students and teachers were part of a six-day pilot training programme which introduced them to the school level coding skills. The six-day training programme was a joint initiative of the Telangana Institute of Technology Association (TITA), Electronics & Communication, Department of Information Technology (IT) and Department of Education.

The teachers and students who were selected for the training programme are a part of the “Innovation Clubs” of their respective schools who will now be competent enough to teach coding to others. Termed as “Telangana Early Coders”, they will now partake the knowledge they imbibed during the programme to a select few in their respective schools. This knowledge dissipation process will be two weeks long starting on 17 January.

The six-day training programme commenced on 6th January where these selected teachers and students got a first-hand experience in Python and Scratch. They were also taught how to code using ProGame without computers. This was a particularly enlightening experience for those who hadn’t been exposed to computers previously. The trainees put their recently imbibed technical knowledge to good use by creating various things like apple & ball game, dice & quiz, calculator etc with the help of Scratch and Python. To assess the learning of the trainees, a test was conducted on the final day of the programme which was cleared with an average score of 91%.

Sandip Kumar Makhtala, Global President of TITA in a press statement announced that the training programme will begin in 18 schools during the initial stages. A report will be prepared to be put up in front of the Government by one of the TITA members according to his/her observation. The report submission date is 03rd February 2020.
