Medical Council of India (MCI) awards Gujrat with 47 new medical seats for PG courses. According to state education department officials this is highest addition that has been made.
Out of these 47 seats, 40 seats comes under AMC MET Medical College at the LG Hospital and 7 seats comes under Gujarat Adani Institute of Medical Sciences at Bhuj.
Medical colleges at Sola and Gandhinagar might get 30 PG medical seats each the coming year after they complete four years of its establishment, thoughts of an official.
The NHL Medical College is also expected to get 10 seats for super-speciality courses after an inspection in July by the authorities.
At the moment, the state has 800 PG seats available.
In the meeting of MCI this decision was made which took place on 29thJan’16 under the chairmanship of Dr Jayshree Mehta.
These seats will be part the admission process that takes place in April.
"MET college had asked for 56 seats against which it has got 40 on the basis of existing infrastructure and facilities. Out of the seats, surgery and medicine has got five seats each whereas gynaecology, paediatrics, radiology and anaesthetics have got three seats each. Psychiatry has got two seats whereas TB, ENT and eye has got one seats each," said an official.
The officials said that for non-medical disciplines, there are 390 seats with Gujarat University (GU) whereas for PG, there are 350 seats.
