For the first time in its 90 years, Harvard University will offer a digital learning initiative that is specially designed for Indian students. This is the first time that Harvard is breaking few of its own norms to enhance its strategies and is offering programmes outside the US.

Harvard is known as an educational institute majorly associated with senior management executives at a global level. However, the university is now venturing into programmes that will help students at the beginning of their careers and as entry-level professionals. The aim of this initiative is to tackle one of the biggest challenges of the nation i.e. employability.

Harvard usually offers programmes to its students at a premium cost but will initially offer the programmes under this initiative free of cost in order to connect with the students.

Vivek Chachra, Country Manager (India), Harvard Business Publishing (HBP), said that the initiative will help bridge the huge gap between the skills of the students and the industry requirements as this is the main reason behind the lack of employability in India. He further added that the digital landscape of India is evolving rapidly and hence the university has decided to build and research in the field and impact the lives of as many individuals as possible.

The aim of the initiative is to help the students in determining their skills so that they can get a better vision regarding what they want to do by the time they graduate. Programmes under the initiative will also offer lessons that individuals will be able to utilize at their place of work. HBP has always come up with innovative ideas in the field of management that have proven to be very useful for senior management and executives globally, added Chachra.

Harvard decided to launch this initiative in India as chose India is a youth nation and the maximum number of citizens in the country are between the age group of 23-30 years. An initiative such as this can be very helpful for the students who are struggling in the industry and find it difficult to utilize their skills.
