Hindi-to-Hindi Online Dictionary to be launched by Oxford University Press

An online Hindi dictionary will soon be launched by the Oxford University Press (OUP) under the Oxford Global Languages (OGL) program from Oxford Dictionaries. Hindi is the ninth language that was added to the OGL program.

A Language Champion will be assigned the task to support the Hindi and provide strategic advice. This will also help in expanding the growth and awareness regarding the initiative. Dr. Poonam Nigam Sahay, Associate Professor, Ranchi University, has been selected as the Hindi Language Champion for the website.

Sivaramakrishnan V, Managing Director of Oxford University Press, India said that the Online Hindi Dictionary will help increase the ease of access for those who want to learn Hindi language in India as well as in other countries.

The digital platform will also enable the OUP to collect and store huge amount of data related to the language that can be easily accessed by the users at any time.

OGL is an essential initiative started by the OUP that aims to cover around 100 world languages and build dictionaries and lexicographical resources for them. The objective of this program is to enhance the experience of millions of people by providing web-based digital content in their native languages.

This program will also help in preserving languages and will provide language users with advanced tools for overall communication enhancement. It will also enrich the languages and will help in their fast and phenomenal development around all over the world.
