Mumbai University and The Dharavi Project have joined hands to introduce an exclusive and one-of-a-kind Student Exchange Programme meant for a Certification course in Hip-Hop to encourage students to do something apart from academics. This 15-week long course will enable students from both the institutes to learn and receive adequate exposure in the field. The Hip-Hop budding artists will get access to mentorship and support in the field in an environment where music and education will come together and further allow students to understand and analyse historical as well as social roots of Hip-Hop. This course is a great platform for artists who wish to go ahead with hip-hop but lack sufficient knowledge and practice.

Professor Yatindra Ingle is the one who conceptualized the entire idea and is currently working with Dolly Rateshwar, the Programme Head of The Dharavi Project in order to devise a proper curriculum.

During the inauguration of the course, both of them addressed the gathering and appreciated the students who are interested in going beyond the classrooms and explore new learning. The course was introduced to the students on 8th September 2018 at the Mumbai University.

CEO & MD of Qyuki Digital Media Pvt Ltd and Trustee at The Dharavi Project, Mr. Samir Bangara said that Qyuki and Universal Music have given in their best to make Hip-Hop an art form in the country. The unique initiative taken up in collaboration with the Mumbai University is expected to further encourage students to learn, in depth, about Hip-Hop.

On the other hand, Professor Ingle said that the University wanted to propose a course on different music genres in context to the use of communication tools and media. The Hip-Hop course will facilitate this idea and students will be able to understand, both the practical and theoretical aspects of the music genre. The Dharavi Project's initiative is expected to bring about a positive change, he added.
