Home Minister Rajnath Singh meets Jammu and Kashmir Students

In an attempt to understand the problems of Jammu and Kashmir students better, Home Minister Rajnath Singh met some of the students from the state who are currently studying in different Indian universities.

The minister met a few students from Jammu and Kashmir studying in a university in Jaipur, Rajasthan and discussed the problems faced by them in getting benefits of government scholarships.

Singh realized the quandary of the students coming from Jammu, Srinagar and Ladakh when the issues were highlighted on the news channel by a journalist. To know more about the issue, Rajnath also contacted the journalist and the Education Minister of Rajasthan.

He told the students that he will solve their issues and will ensure that they benefit from the Prime Ministers' Special Scholarship scheme that has been launched for the same purpose.

A senior official said that students were facing several issues regarding the PM scholarship.

During Rajnath’s visit, HRD minister Prakash Javadekar also heard the issues mentioned by the students. Both the ministers ensured that all the problems of the students will be resolved. The officials of MHRD will be meeting the students today.

The Home Ministry had also set up a 24x7 grievance redressal helpline to help the people of the state and especially those residing outside the state. Sanjay Roy, Director (Media), was nominated as the nodal officer for this initiative.

All sorts of issues including harassment of Kashmiri youth will be received by the nodal officer. Regardless of where the people from the state reside, attempts will be made to solve the issues as early as possible.

The Home Minister made the announcement of appointing one such officer on his visit to Kashmir. The move was made to resolve the complaints that have been filed by various political parties saying that the Kashmiri youth has to face harassment in various states of the country such as Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Karnataka.
