HP Government Signs MoU with NTPC & NHPC
The Himachal Pradesh Government signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the establishment of Hydro Engineering College in Bilaspur.
The Himachal Pradesh Government signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) and National Hydel Power Corporation (NHPC) for the establishment of Hydro Engineering College in Bilaspur. Union Health Minister Mr. JP Nadda gave the details about the MoU in a press meet.

He said that the establishment of Hydro Engineering College will boost up the regional development and generate a number of employment opportunities. It is the first hydro engineering college in Himachal Pradesh. The minister expressed his happiness that the local youth will be able to get better employment opportunities.

He mentioned that the institute will help in generation of technical human resource for hydropower projects. The hydropower generation, especially in Himalayan region, requires a combination of technical skills and different fields like civil, hydrology, mechanical and electrical engineering.

The proposal for the establishment of the college was made in the year 2009 and the long cherished dream of setting up college has been realized by the government. NTPC & NHPC are engaged in the construction of various power projects in the state. The state possesses more than 20,000 MW hydropower potential.
The college will be developed into a center of excellence and the students need not go to far away places for being technically trained and skilled.
