HRD Minister Javadekar Highlights Benchmark Changes in New Education Policy

From the next academic session, starting from 2017-2018, Human Resource Development Ministry is coming up with several benchmark changes relating to the learning level of the student from class 1-8. These learning outcomes will have to be implemented because these will be included in the rules, said HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar.

Launching the ‘Shagun’ web portal, the HRD Minister revealed that the quality of education in the country, especially in terms of primary education, was a great concern for the government. Now the government will pay special attention to this neglected area. The right to education is in existence. However, the learning outcomes are being talked about as well but have not been defined yet. After this initiative of the government, a major gap in the education system will be filled.

Javadekar said that his ministry has done a lot of work on what should be the learning benchmarks. Following the democratic traditions of the country, the government has sought the suggestions of the public. Additionally, the team of the government is also stressing on the training of the teachers through B.Ed and any lapse in this regard will not be tolerated.

Teaching is the main job of the teachers in the schools. All the aspiring teachers will necessarily have to take classes in government schools and they will be evaluated by the supervising teachers as well as on the basis of feedback received from the students who are taught in the class.

The minister also said that under the new education policy exams will be conducted for classes 5th and 8th and those who fail will be given a chance to appear in the exam in June.

Also, the government at the centre has planned several other measures to improve the quality of the education.
