HRD Minister Javadekar to Inaugurate IIT Jammu Campus on Aug 6

The ad-interim campus of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Jammu will be inaugurated by Union Human Resource Development (HRD) Minister Prakash Javadekar on 6 August.

IIT Jammu is going to offer Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Computer Science and Engineering with a total intake of 90 students- 30 each in each stream.

Besides that, introduction to engineering non-graded courses on language, professional ethics & social responsibility are also included.

For the time being IIT Jammu would follow the curriculum of IIT Delhi for the academic programme. However, the institute will evolve its own curriculum in the due course of time. But in the first year, all students irrespective of the branch will undergo the same curriculum. Students would do courses on basic sciences and basic engineering in the first year.

The performance of a student in a course will be evaluated continuously and the Institute will follow a credit system. And along with that, a relative grading system will also be followed.

For the extra-curricular activities, the institute is equipped with basketball, volleyball and badminton courts. Besides that, cricket nets are also being planned. The institute is also coming with indoor sports facilities like carom, table tennis, chess and rooms for dance and music.

By the time to inspect readiness of host students for the upcoming session 2016-17, Priya Sethi, Minister of State for Education and Technical Education visited the ad-interim campus of the IIT Jammu.

For the benefit of the local student's various short term courses will be organised in the campus regularly so that they can learn from the expertise of the faculty and benefit from their knowledge and experience, said the minister.
