HRD Minister: No Shortage of Funds for Institutes of National Importance

The Science Education and Research Act 2007 is being introduced to amend National Institutes of Technology. The bill will also enable the institutes at Berhampur and Tirupati to function under the guidance of the legislation.
The bill is also supposed to help increase the number of Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research (IISER) in the country. Two more IISERs will be started eventually summing up to seven such institutes in the country. The aim of these institutes is to promote research and innovation in the field of basic sciences.

IISERs are allotted a budget of Rs. 900 crores every year, whereas, the budget for IISc Bangalore is Rs. 300 crore. Javadekar said that public expenditure in higher education is the most important form of investment for India as it will help in shaping the future of our country.
The minister also assured that efforts are being made to provide adequate funds to various centres of excellence. He also added that enriching the quality of education is one of the primary objectives of the Central Government.
Javadekar also informed that steps are also being taken to encourage students to move towards research. The prominent institutes in India will also be assisted in raising their standards to match the global academic level, the HRD Minister added.
