HRD Minister and UGC Take Steps to Promote Green Cause
HRD Minister, Ramesh Pokhriyal takes a step towards promoting the green cause. The University Grants Commission also encourages the students as well as the educational institutions across India to promote tree plantation and take steps for water conservation too.
In a bid to motivate the students across India, the Union Minister, Ramesh Pokhriyal of the Ministry of Human Resource and Development has started a movement for the protection of the environment. With his contribution to the movement with a motivational video of tree plantation and conservation of water resources, he has been motivating the students to push for the green cause.
In a letter sent by the University Grants Commission (UGC), the commission has directed everyone which includes the higher educational institutions to contribute to the protection of the environment, which is a key element when it comes to the survival of human beings.

The Secretary of the University Grants Commission has written to the different Vice-Chancellors, Principals and Directors of Universities, Institutes and other educational institutions in India to execute the directive of “One Student One Tree”. The letter further stated the importance of the protection of the environment, wherein, a need has arisen for planting as many trees in the environment along with taking up water conservation methods. It further mentioned that to reduce the effects of pollution as well as environmental degradation, certain steps needed to be taken apart from restricting all the factors that degrade the quality of the environment.

The UGC also stated that if the Universities and the educational institutions had taken steps to protect the environment, things would have been different. However, the statement “better late than never” can be applied here.
