Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank' : Govt has Initiated Several Steps to Make Varsities Cashless
Payments and transactions in all the Central Universities, Indian Institute of Technologies (IITs), Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs), National Institute of Technologies (NITs) and IITMs have been fully digitalised as a step to make universities cashless.
Union Minister of Human Resource and Development Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank' informed that payments and transactions in all the Central Universities, Indian Institute of Technologies (IITs), Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs),National Institute of Technologies (NITs) and IITMs have been fully digitalised, This is an effort on the behalf of the government to make the varsities go cashless.
All the Central Universities in the country have been instructed that all payments and receipts related to the institution should be done in digital or online mode to promote transparency.
Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi in his ‘Maan ki Baat’ address on November 27, 2016 urged the youth to train at least ten families and people in business, especially in rural areas, about online transactions, mobile banking and internet banking. They should create awareness among them about the fact that online banking is ‘safe and secure’. The NCC and NSS wings in various institutes must take up awareness drives and educate the people.

Earlier, the ministry issued directions to IITs, NITs and central universities across the country to make and receive payments in an online mode. Recently, some of the officials of IITs requested the ministry to look into the issue of the daily limit of cash usage (Rs.24,000) with the finance ministry.
