HRD Ministry to Set Up Research and Innovation Division
Union Ministry has decided to set up ‘Research and Innovation Division’ to boost research work in institutions that comes under the HRD Ministry.
Union Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ on Thursday announced that the HRD Ministry is creating a dedicated ‘Research and Innovation Division’ to boost research in academic institutions across the country, It will be headed by a director who will coordinate the research work of various institutions that come under the HRD Ministry.
The Ministry has also decided to spread the ambit of PM’s Research Fellowship (PMRF) scheme by reducing the requirement of GATE score and adding lateral entry options.

The research and innovation division will help the Indian institutes to focus more on these activities so that they can make meaningful contributions to the nation. At the same time, students will be more inclined towards taking up research and come up with innovative strategies for various challenges that are being faced by the society. The major objective of this division will be identifying the challenges or problems of society and coming up with innovative solutions for the same. Through this division, the HRD Ministry may organize several competitions or hackathon so that students from diverse backgrounds and regions come up with effective innovative ideas and solutions.

Earlier, the MHRD had written a letter to various universities and had asked them to study on how India handled the Spanish Flu of 1918. The Ministry had also asked them to research nearby villages to spread awareness on coronavirus pandemic.
