<p>The four education channels which got off air a year ago are likely to get on air again soon. HRD Minster, Simriti Irani writes I&B Minister, Arun Jaitey to give a fresh lease to all four channels. The channels catered to lakhs of distance education learning students.
Smriti Irani has asked Arun Jaitely in a letter, to seek his intervention to make the channel available to the students once again, and the process to do so has been initiated.
Four education channels — Gyan Darshan I and II run by the Indira Gandhi National Open University and another two run by IIT Delhi and the Consortium for Educational Communication-University Grants Commission (Vyas channel) — were pulled off air in June 2014.
Gyan Drashan I was the oldest channel which ran for almost 14 years before its run was cut short. INSAT-3C, the satellite which serviced the channels, was being used for other strategic services and the channels were shifted to another satellite.
