<p>To know the official ranking of the higher education institutes in India one have to depend on the ranking of the foreign Institutes, but this time Human Resource Development Ministry (HRD) is going to prepare the ranking of the India’s Higher Education Institutes of its own.
The Ministry is preparing a framework to ranks these institutes. HRD ministry had even held consultations with QS and Times ranking authorities to look at how to improve the rankings.
This India-Centric Ranking Framework will give an alternative to Indian students, who often compare rankings of global colleges with India's.
Under the new ranking system institutes offering engineering, Law, Management and Humanities etc. will be counted for the ranking. Right now Indian Institutes are ranked below 200 in the ranking offered by global ranking bodies.
"We submitted the draft to the HRD ministry and they may or may not accept it. It was done at the behest of the HRD ministry and they alone can decide on the ranking framework,” said an official of National Board of Accreditation (NBA).
The ranking list is expected to come out in January-February 2016.
Under the new ranking system academic institutes will be assessed on several parameters- They would be assessed on teaching-learning; research; collaborative practice and professional performance; graduate outcomes, Placement, outreach and inclusive action and peer group perception etc.
The rankings will be displayed through a web-based portal wherein each institute will be able to furnish information and the final outcome also come out there.
