HRD ministry to set up 3 new IIITs on PPP mode

A memorandum of understanding was signed between the Human Resource Development ministry and several private players in order to set up three new Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs). The institutes would be set up in Ranchi, Nagpur and Pune on the basis of the Public Private Partnership (PPP) mode.

“The three institutes would be set up in collaboration with among state governments, center and the industry and are expected to bring the high quality IT manpower required for building up IT industry in the country,” said a press release from the ministry.

Vinay Sheel Oberoi, Secretary Department of Higher Education in HRD ministry signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Tata Consultancy Services, Tata Motors, M/s ADCC Info cad, Nagpur and M/s Hubtown, Mumbai. According to an official statement With this, the total number of IIIT's on the PPP mode has gone up to 16, leaving four more to be set up for which schedule has been fixed in the month of January 2016.

IIIT Ranchi would admit 120 students for the year 2016-17 through JEE2016examination. The institute would operate from the Old Judicial Academy in the Administrative Training Institute. “The partners for IIIT Ranchi, TCS and Tata Motors have committed their participation in developing the curriculum that is required by the industry. The institute would be mentored by NIT-Jamshedpur,” said a press release.

For IIIT Nagpur the Maharashtra Government has identified 88 acres of land for a permanent campus. Till then the institute would operate from BMIT campus with an active participation from M/s ADCC Infocad and TCS. The BMIT would mentor the institute and 120 students would be admitted in CSE and ECE branches in 2016 through the JEE-2016 examination.

For IIIT Pune, the state government has identified 120 acres of land at Chakan for a permanent campus. Till then it would temporarily function from Siddhant Engineering College.

The industry partners M/s Hubtown Mumbai and M/s Roltas have agreed to develop the curriculum. The institute would be under the mentorship of College of Engineering (COE) Pune and would be admitting 120 students in 2016 through JEE-2016.
