HRD Ministry Urges Assam Govt. to Provide Data on Students Abroad
The Union ministry of external affairs has sought complete details, about students from Assam who are studying in universities and colleges abroad.
The Union Ministry of External Affairs has sought complete details about students from Assam who are studying in various colleges and universities abroad. This information will help in providing assistance to these students during the time of crisis, if any, in these countries.
In a communique to the state government, the external affairs ministry has sought on registering all concerned students with the ministry. The Students' Registration Module has been put in the external affairs ministry's portal - 'Madad'.

In a letter recently sent to Assam Chief Secretary Vinod Kumar Pipersenia, it stated that data entered into the module is a voluntary mode by the Indian Students. Such entry of data will provide useful information like -
- Number of students going abroad
- Educational courses that they are registering for
- Pattern of migration of Indian students to different countries
- Move will also help the government to advise these students during the crisis period in those countries

Now the ministry has initiated the process of registration of other Indian students who are studying abroad.
An official of state higher education department said that right now no concrete data is available with the state government to determine the number of Assamese students studying abroad. If the government has no data, how can the central government trace them during the time of crisis in those countries, he questioned.
The Union ministry has told the government of Assam to widely publicize the registration module of the students through social media as to make those students and family members aware of the initiative.
The same official also said that the entire process will be streamlined soon and it will alleviate the concerns of parents whose children are studying in foreign countries.
