HRD Ministry Urges PSUs to Reschedule Campus Recruitment Drives
- The timing of the recruitment of the PSUs is normally overlapping to the admission dates of the post-graduate courses (ME/M.Tech).
- Therefore, the ministry urged all public sector units to consider rescheduling their annual campus recruitment drive.
The Ministry of Human Resource Development has informed all the Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) not to conduct campus recruitment drives at centrally-funded technical institutes including Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and National Institutes of Technology (NITs) in mid-academic session. Since many PSUs have been visiting IITs and NITs for campus recruitment in the mid of the academic session, many M.Tech students are dropping out within few months after getting admission in the premier institutes to secure employment in PSUs.

The ministry further pointed that the timing of recruitment that is being conducted by PSUs is overlapping to the admission dates of Post Graduate (PG) courses at IITs and NITs. Therefore, all the PSUs must consider the existing issue and reschedule their annual campus recruitment drives so that the dropout rate of M.Tech students in IITs and NITs could be minimised, explained the HRD Ministry.
The HRD Ministry also pointed that GATE score is a mandatory criterion for the admission to M.E or M.Tech courses, and it should not be taken into consideration for the appointments in PSUs.

The HRD Ministry directive comes after IITs and NITs requested the ministry to come out with a solution to regulate dropout rate in M.Tech courses. Many PSUs are considering GATE score for the recruitment. Therefore, many students who are qualifying GATE are taking up M.Tech course at premier institutes so that they have more chances of being employed in PSUs. Many aspirants look M.Tech at IITs and NITs as an alternative career option.
