Hyderabad Girl Wins Erasmus Mundus Scholarship to Study Master's in Health Economics & Management
IIT Madras girl bags the prestigious European Scholarship Scheme of Erasmus Mundus which is awarded to academically excellent students with strong extracurricular presence. She is a Bharatanatyam dancer and plans to continue dancing.
The prestigious European scholarship Erasmus Mundus is recently bagged by a 22 years old Hyderabad girl named Nandini Jayakumar to pursue a joint masters degree from Europe on Health Economics and Management. The scholarship is provided to her by the European Commission. Jayakumar has expressed her desire to take Bharatnatyam to a global scale with the help of her exposure in Europe. Under her masters' course which is consisted of 4 total semesters, Nandini will be travelling to various Universities across Europe including in countries like Italy, Norway, Netherlands and Austria.
Nandini said to the media that after a 2-month long internship with the World Bank, she started exploring the opportunities to study abroad an connect to an alumni network which is global for her higher reach and exposure. She also saught for a scholarship of that nature. She was interested to study Public Health from abroad and she also hopes that this joint curriculum will give her opportunities to study the subject on a global scale.
Nandini Jayakumar is currently pursuing integrated masters from Indian Institute of Technology - IIT Madras on the specialisation of Development studies in final year and aims to fly to Europe this year in September.
Previously, she was also awarded an International Academics by the Government of France for participating in the student exchange programme with Sciences Po University. She was also selected in the United Nations Conference on Trade & Development in Kenya as the youngest Representative.
The scholarship she bagged requires a strong purpose from the applicant side and excellence in academics and extracurricular activities also. Nandini said that she is a Bharatnatyam dancer and her decision to study in Europian Countries is influenced by her passion for Bharatnatyam.

She picked up IIT Madras for her Graduation to get in touch with the culture of Bharatnatyam. She sees dancing as not only a relaxing activity but also as an inseparable part of her life which helps her to focus on her goals more efficiently. She said that the always used to take a 1 or 2 hours break from the packed study schedule to practice Bharatnatyam.

IIT Madras was very helpful to her as it taught her many quantitive skills along with the prescribed academic curriculum. She said she did not want to go to an institute which only teaches her social science but gives no exposure or scope for pursuing her extracurricular activities. She said that her regular interaction and connections with people from other departments proved to be beneficial for developing her personality in the institute.
