The president of Indian Association of Physiotherapy (IAP) Prof. (Dr.) Umashankar Mohanty visited the Bihar College of Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy recently. The visit of the college mainly focussed on uplifting of Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy as a profession.
The academic in charge cum Asst. Prof. (Mr) Abhay Kumar Jaiswal informed CollegeDekho that the convener of the seminar cum IAP visit was Dr. Narendra Kumar Sinha who is also the head of Indian Association of Physiotherapy, Bihar branch.
The seminar on the topic ‘Evolution of Profession – Occupational therapy & Physiotherapy’ highlighted the need for formation of a combined council for Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy at the state and the National level for the uplifting the welfare of the Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy professionals.
In the visit-cum seminar at Bihar College of Physiotherapy and Occupational therapy the acting principal of the college Mr. Kishore Kumar, the academic in charge Mr. Abhay Kumar Jaiswal, Assistant Professor - Priyadarshi Alok and other faculty members were present in the visit and the seminar. The next step towards the formation of a council would be taken jointly with the AIOTA (All India All India Occupational Therapist’s Association) president Dr. Anil Kumar Srivastava.
Before that Dr. Umashankar Mohanty had highlighted the need for induction of Physiotherapists in colleges and schools during a press conference at Bhagalpur – Bihar.
The Bihar College of Physiotherapy and Occupational therapy was established in the year 1998, and the regular degree program started in the year 2002. Prior to this, the college was hosting Diploma courses, as informed by the academic in-charge of the college, Mr. Abhay Kumar Jaiswal.
