ICAI CA Exam 2020: Cannot be Conducted Online; ICAI tells SC
ICAI has informed the Supreme Court that it cannot hold the upcoming November exam in online mode as a three-hour exam is meant to test the analytical capabilities of the students.
The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) informed the Supreme Court on 4th Nov 2020 that it cannot hold the upcoming November CA exam 2020 online as suggested by some of the candidates, in view of Coronavirus. The institute informed the Apex Court that the exams test the analytical capabilities of the students and it's not possible to conduct them in online mode.
Many students who appeared in the CA November Exam 2020 want the exam to be held online. But ICAI said that it's a three-hour exam with descriptive answers and the same cannot be held in the objective mode.
Senior Advocate Ramji Srinivasan representing ICAI informed the Apex Court that they do not have any separate rooms/ facilities for doctors at the CA November examination centers but the petitions have to be rational with their demands. He ensured that all the petitioner’s demands have been considered.
A bench of Justices A M Khanwilkar, Dinesh Maheshwari, and Sanjiv Khanna asked the ICAI to publish an official release on its website for the steps taken for students' welfare with regard to COVID-19 and dismissed the petition.
The bench has asked the ICAI to publish a detailed Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for the examinees in the upcoming CA exams. Apart from CA exams to be held online, the petitioners have also demanded accommodation facilities. Advocate Srinivasan has said that the accommodation facility will not be possible. However, ICAI has requested the Ministry of Home affairs to allow hotel booking through e-admit cards.
