ICCR to Provide Online Courses on Indian Traditional Knowledge

The Indian Council of Cultural Relations (ICCR) will soon start online courses and a dedicated portal to disseminate information about Traditional Indian Knowledge. The portal is likely to be launched on April 02, 2022. These courses will focus on enriching knowledge in the field of art, architecture, Vedas, epics like Mahabharata and Ramayana, etc. among the world community. The information was shared by ICCR President Vinay Sahasrabuddhe in a press conference organized at Azad Bhawan where the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) was planning to hold celebrations for ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’.
The duration of these courses will range from 4 weeks to 40 weeks as there will be short-term and long-term online courses on everything under the Sun about Indian culture. He also stated that courses will have a variety to enrich Indian culture globally. The courses that are proposed to introduce include a recipe for rosogullah, fundamentals of Warli paintings, Madhubani Art, appreciating the art of Ajanta and Ellora caves, basics of Vedas, the introduction of Mahabharata and Ramayana, the life of Babasaheb Ambedkar, and many more among other subjects.
The government is organizing several festivals and events as part of ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’ to mark 75 Years of India’s Independence in different parts of the country. The IICR President Mr. Sahasrabuddhe also mentioned about 3-day crafts fair ‘Coalescence’ to be hosted from February 23-25 in which 11 states will participate.
The ICCR has currently partnered with Savitribai Phule University for these online courses. The ICCR is ready to open options for other universities that may be joining at a later stage but Savitribai Phule is the main partner. There will be no age restrictions for the candidates willing to do these courses online and the proposed fee structure will also be very nominal.
