ICSE Students in Kolkata Get Lessons on Social Media
- ICSE Kolkata students took part in a seminar conducted by cyber experts and counsellors where discussions took place on positives and negatives of social media networks.
- Three students of Classes IX, X and XI from each school attended the daylong workshop.
Around 250 ICSE students from 62 schools in Kolkata and neighbouring districts learned about social media and its influence or impact on daily life at a workshop organised by cyber experts on November 19, 2017. At a seminar conducted by cyber experts and counsellors, discussions took place on positives and negatives of social media networks like Instagram, WhatsApp and Facebook. During the workshop, awareness was also created on advantages and disadvantages of online video games such as Blue Whale Challenge.
Three students of Classes IX, X and XI from each school attended the daylong workshop. Along with students, a teacher from every school took part in the workshop that received a tremendous response. It is the responsibility of these students to interact with their juniors and classmates at their respective schools and spread the message.

One of the teachers, who attended the workshop expressed that smartphones are playing a vital role in influencing the minds of students. Even though using smartphones is good, there are certain limitations. Today, most of the students are misusing the smartphones instead of obtaining knowledge and accessing useful information. Over usage of the smartphone will damage the concentration power of students and keep them away from the extracurricular activities, he added. Involving the students in the sports activities is a way to tackle the same.

Recently, Blue Whale Challenge has emerged as one of the controversial games, which became popular among children and youth.
