IGNOU will be offering a new certificate programme to mitigate the problems of waste management. The School of Interdisciplinary and Trans-Disciplinary Studies, Indira Gandhi National Open University has launched a Solid Waste Management certificate programme from the July 2020 session.

Those who are interested in taking admission in this course can take a look at the eligibility criteria below and apply for the course on IGNOU's official website. The last date to apply for the certificate programme is August 16, 2020. The idea behind launching this course is to make the students aware of the 'problem of waste generation and its impact on the environment and human health'. The programme will also acquaint the students with the existing legislation, knowledge and practices regarding waste management. The course duration is 6 months minimum and maximum is 2 years. The course is offered via distance learning mode and will be taught in Hindi.

The course fee for the certificate programme in Solid Waste Management is INR 3600 plus INR 200 as registration fee.

IGNOU Certificate in Solid Waste Management Course Structure
The certificate programme comprises three courses of 6 credits each
- 1: Introduction to Solid Waste Management
- 2: Municipal, Agricultural, Industrial and Hazardous Waste Management
- 3: Plastic, E-waste, Biomedical and Construction, and Demolition Waste management
This programme will delve deeper into solid waste management covering the key elements of the waste management system such as environmental, social, financial and institutional aspects.
