IGNOU Launches New Course for Nurses
IGNOU has launched a new course for nurses in collaboration with the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. The course aims to impart practical training to nurses in healthcare and to enhance their skills.
Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has launched a new course in Community and Nursing in association with the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. The programme in Community and Nursing has been introduced by IGNOU with an aim to improve skills and knowledge of nurses who are Registered Nurse Registered Midwife (RNRM) category.
The duration of the course is six months and is sponsored by the state government with the support of the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Delhi. The classes for the programme will start from today i.e. 10th August 2018.
Eligibility Criteria for IGNOU Course in Community and Nursing:
- The Registered Nurse Registered Midwife (RNRM) and the Ayurveda practitioners who work as Mid-Level Providers (MLPs) can apply for the course.

Also, the IGNOU Visakhapatnam Regional Centre has already established five programme study centres for the new course.
IGNOU Community and Nursing Course Modules:
- Community Health Centre
- Primary Health Centre
- Urban Primary Health Centre
The programme will cover various different modules and students will be offered 50 days of intensive practical training in the above-mentioned healthcare sectors and they will be posted at district hospitals to learn about the same.
IGNOU Community and Nursing Course Programme Study Centres (PSC):
The IGNOU PSCs for the Community and Nursing course are located at the government hospitals:
- Government College of Nursing, Srikakulam
- Government College of Nursing, Visakhapatnam
- Srikakulam, District Hospital, Vizianagaram
- District Hospital, Eluru
- Government College of Nursing, Kakinada

After the completion of the course, the participating students will be appointed as Mid-Level Providers at various Primary Health Centres.
