The Indira Gandhi National Open University, Regional Centre, Lucknow has started a ''Reaching to Unreached'' Programme in the urban slums of Lucknow.
Under this programme, IGNOU is planning to organise an awareness camp in Uttar Pradesh's largest urban slum of Lavkush Nagar, Lucknow. On April 5th, it was organised with a view to informing the slum dwellers regarding the methodology of open and distance learning and the programmes offered by IGNOU with the help of local organisations.
''Reaching the Unreached Programme would be another step for fulfilling the higher educational aspirations of the slum dwellers.",said the director of IGNOU Regional Centre, Lucknow , DR, Manmohan Singh.
During the programme people who were present were explained about how they could get a quality education at their doorsteps at an affordable cost. Some courses were also discussed during the programme. The courses discussed were:
- Rural Development
- NGO Management
- Extension and Development Studies
- Food and Nutrition
- Environmental Studies
According to the members of IGNOU, they received a very warm response from the people present there and people interacted with the IGNOU officials frankly on issues related to their career and entrepreneurship seeking suggestions about the courses which can help in achieving their goals.
