IGNOU to Launch Three Distance Courses on Solar Applications
- For this purpose, IGNOU has collaborated with ISA or International Solar Alliance.

Indira Gandhi National Open University or IGNOU is all set to offer three new distance courses on solar applications. For this purpose, IGNOU has collaborated with ISA or International Solar Alliance. All these three new courses will be offered from the upcoming academic session. The course will attract international students. International Solar Alliance or ISA is an international alliance of 120 ‘sunshine countries’ with a major focus on utilisation of solar power. Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi launched ISA in November 2015 at the CoP21 Climate Conference in Paris. The headquarters of ISA is located in Gurgaon.

All the three new distance courses on Solar Applications will be available on the international platform. These courses will be translated into Spanish, French and Arabic. According to sources, the varsity has the faculty for French and Spanish. However, recruiting faculty for Arabic might take some time. There is no confirmation whether these courses will be offered in Arabic. Vice-Chancellor of IGNOU revealed that the varsity had formed a committee last week to work on the modalities.

According to sources, the first 300 students who enroll for these programmes will not be charged any fee. However, the formal announcement on the same is expected soon. VC of IGNOU revealed that all the 300 students would be from outside India.
The application process for the admission to various programmes offered by IGNOU is open, and July 15, 2017, is the deadline to submit the applications for these programmes.
